BEIJING, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- January 26 marks International Customs Day. It is a day that recognizes the role of custom officials and agencies in maintaining the flow of goods across the world's borders. It focuses on the working conditions and challenges that customs officers face in their jobs.

Instituted by the World Customs Organization (WCO), International Customs Day commemorates the day in 1953 when the inaugural session of the Customs Cooperation Council (CCC) was held in Brussels, Belgium. Seventeen European countries attended this session.

This year, against the backdrop of the global coronavirus pandemic, let's seize the occasion to recognize the united efforts of customs in helping the world emerge from the coronavirus crisis and in bolstering recovery, renewal and resilience.
