Beijing Customs Seizes Ivory Products in Inbound Posts

On July 9, Beijing Customs seized 2 strings of ivory beads, totaling 800 grams, in an inbound postal parcel that contained a number of metal handicrafts. Since June, Beijing Customs has intercepted 5 inbound posts with concealed ivory products and the ivory seizures totaled 3,415 grams.  

 

Customs reminder: Elephant tusk and ivory products are listed in Appendix Ⅰ of the “Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora” (CITES); as a contracting state of CITES, China has since 31 December 2017 banned commercial processing and sale of elephant tusk and ivory products; it is subject to legal liability to carry or post elephant tusk and ivory products inward without the permit issued by Endangered Species Import and Export Management Office of China.
