Tianjin Customs Seizes 6.15-Tons Endangered Sandalwood Products

On January 27, Tianjin Customs seized 6.15 tons of ornaments made of endangered sandalwood.
That day, subordinate Xingang Customs House received an import declaration of Pakistani wood-carved ornaments with the specification as “walnut wood”. Through cargo inspection, those ornaments (like dial plates, jewel boxes and tissue boxes) were seemingly not made of walnut wood and thus professionallyidentified to be yellow sandalwood, which is listed in Appendix Ⅱ of the “Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)”. By now, as the consignee had no official permit of the import, the wood ornaments have been detained for further investigation by the Customs House.
Customs reminder: In accordance with the CITES and relevant China’s regulations, endangered species and their products are prohibited from trading, carrying and mailing across the national border without Import/Export Permit issued by the Endangered Species Import and Export Management Office of China.
