Guangzhou Customs Seizes IPR-Infringing Shoe-Buckles with “Mickey Mouse”

Recently in Guangzhou Customs District, an export of plastic shoe-buckles was intercepted at Baiyun International Airport for their infringement on the use right of registered “MICKEYMOUSEdevice” trademark.
Through the cargo inspection, the Airport Customs House found 12,000 plastic shoe-buckles printed with Disney’s “Mickey Mouse” head portrait and the manufacturer unlisted as an authorized user of the trademark in China Customs IPR Registration System. Through customs enforcement, these shoe-buckles were confirmed to be infringing on the IPR by The Walt Disney Company on March 10 and are now detained by the Customs for further investigation.
In support of entry-exit IPR protection, Guangzhou Customs carries out the “Soaring Dragon 2021” campaign, in which a special risk-analysis model focuses on designated high-risk commodities, trade modes and routes to seize IPR infringement with higher precision and thus ensure foreign trade order. Since 2021, the Customs has detained IPR-infringing goods totaling 335 batches, over 13,000 pieces.
