[Wang Hua]: During July-December 2013, under the deployment by the State Council, the GACC, together with other ten authorities, conducted a large-scale anti-smuggling campaign across the country. In this campaign, the Customs investigated more than 1,000 smuggling cases in total, including a batch of major and serious cases. [Wang Hua]: Mr. Chen, there must be many stories during the joint campaign over the past six months, really? 03/12/2014 15:04:02
[Chen Jianxin]: Yes. The nationwide joint campaign against smuggling in the past 6 months have involved most authorities and covered the widest area on the largest scale in recent years. In the campaign, Customs Houses across the country cooperated closely with various departments in different regions to fight against various smuggling and illegal activities and handle those prominent issues about smuggling in a comprehensive manner. [Chen Jianxin]: I give you some figures. Just over the past 6 months, Customs houses across the country filed and investigated 1,063 smuggling cases in total, including 470 tax-related cases, a growth of 12% year on year, with a case value of RMB 17.4 billion, increasing by 1.3 times year on year; the amount of suspected tax evasion reached about RMB 4.4 billion, increasing by 2.2 times year on year; and 593 non-tax-related cases, a growth of 54% compared to that of the same period of last year. Meanwhile, the Customs filed and investigated more than 50 thousand administrative cases with a case value of more than RMB 25 billion. 03/12/2014 15:05:27
[Wang Hua]: From those figures, we can see that the joint campaign against smuggling has avoided a huge loss for the country. I have noticed that the number of suspected tax evasion cases saw greatest rise, increasing by over 2 times compared to the same period of last year. Can you tell us some stories about cracking those cases? 03/12/2014 15:06:12
[Chen Jianxin]: Fighting against the smuggling of tax-relate goods was one of the focuses of the joint campaign. We targeted our efforts at large-scale smuggling activities with serious effects involving gang crimes and industries, and investigated and solved a batch of major and serious cases. 03/12/2014 15:06:51
[Chen Jianxin]: During the campaign, we detected 84 cases for the entire year, including 34 major and serious smuggling criminal cases with a suspected tax evasion amount of over RMB 10 million. Shantou Customs solved a serious case of smuggling imported fur products through false declaration of trade nature by using the processing trade channel. The suspected tax evasion amount reached RMB 1.7 billion, making it the largest tax-related smuggling case cracked in the anti-smuggling joint campaign. 03/12/2014 15:07:28
